I created this video to share why I feel it’s better to wait longer to spay or neuter your dog. I tell this to my clients very often so I figured it would be good to share it publicly. If a dog is neutered or spayed at a young age, we take away the hormone that helps his or her bones to develop. I see this very clearly with male dogs and the hormone testosterone. When we neuter them young, and we take away that hormone, they become very much like a female dog. They don’t have the defined muscle mass that a male dog is supposed to have. This in turn can cause a lot more incidences of hip dysplasia and cruciate ligament’s. Most of the dogs that I see with bad hips are fairly young and all of them are neutered males. I explain in more detail in the video.
